The Orono Oaks defeated the Palm Springs Heat, 4-3, at Heat Ballpark. Orono was led by 24-year old center fielder Ken Gavin, who was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Bill Frazer earned the win to go to 13-5. He allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, with no walks and 7 strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work. The Oaks raised their record to 62-47.
Orono took a 4-2 lead on Gavin's 1st home run of the season. The solo home run, which he hit off Brent Gudim in the top of the eighth, propelled Orono to the win.
Orono manager Mike Barriga called it "a good, solid win."
