Tams Excels, But Tropics Win
|
The White Deer Tropics withstood a fine game by Atlanta right fielder Chris Tams at Ballpark of White Deer, to upend the Aggies, 12-10. Tams was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4. Jesus de Jesus snagged the win in relief. He goes to 2-0 on the season. Dennis Gronewold suffered the loss. The save went to Troy Zufelt, number 28 for him.
Ben Riffe had a timely hit in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out and the bases loaded, the White Deer catcher hit a 2-run single. That put the Tropics in front, 6-4.
"Baseball's a game where I feel like almost everything that happens is strange," said Riffe. "Maybe that's why it's such a great game."
The Tropics saw their win-loss record go to 72-68. At the same time, the Aggies fell to 56-84.
