Widowmakers Earn Win with Late Rally
The Weedpatch Widowmakers beat the Poplar Bluff Hillbillies, 2-1, at Owls Ballpark. Starting pitcher Steve Hernandez was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Hernandez picked up the win for Weedpatch, going 8 innings. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 5-1. Oliver Wood got the save, his 37th in 40 chances.

Weedpatch used the timely hitting of Bill Lobsinger to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Widowmakers on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"Steve gave us a heck of an effort," said Weedpatch manager Tony Velez.

The win hiked the Weedpatch record to 81-54.
