Fire Reel Off Another Win
|
San Francisco starter Pat Daughtry pitched well against the Chicago Gangsters at San Francisco Grounds. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-2. In 8 innings, Daughtry surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Earning his 8th save of the year was Keith Hawes.
Noel Cusack had a big run-scoring triple for the Fire in the bottom of the third inning. With San Francisco leading 3-2 and a runner on 2nd, he got a cutter from 21-year old right-handed pitcher Sam Palacios and swatted a triple to right-center. It was his 1st triple of the season, and more importantly, it put the Fire ahead, 4-2.
"When you put in the effort and you get really focused, the results come in ways you're not even expecting," said Fire manager Zach Freeman.
The Gangsters, at 32-42, have lost 4 in a row.
