Starting pitcher Taylor Motyl was a major factor in the 9-0 San Francisco Fire triumph over the Santa Fe Chiefs. The slumping Chiefs have dropped 12 in a row.

Severo Salcido had a big grand slam home run for the Fire in the bottom of the sixth inning. With San Francisco leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he sized up a sinker from 23-year old right-handed pitcher Dave Harvey and punished it. The result was his 5th home run of the season, which put the Fire on top, 6-0.

"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Salcido.
