6-1 Loss Deepens Kalamazoo Funk
The Nashua Sweepers downed the Kalamazoo Comets, 6-1, at Miller Park. Stellar pitching by Jose Zapata had a lot to do with it. The right-hander handcuffed his opponent all game. Carlos Palmas earned his 1st save, after closing out the game. The losing skid has reached 6 games for Kalamazoo.

Nashua designated hitter Mario Carrillo said he was just trying to make contact when he came to bat with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth. He did more than that -- Carrillo hit a grand slam home run to stake Nashua to a 5-1 lead. His 11th home run of the season came off Kalamazoo pitcher Brian Mabry.

"We're in a little funk right now and we've just got to get ourselves out of it," said Kalamazoo manager .
