Hillbillies Fall to Widowmakers Late
|
The Weedpatch Widowmakers took Poplar Bluff pitcher Jose Sanches's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Owls Ballpark. The final score had Weedpatch getting past the Hillbillies, 6-3. Sanches went 5 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 6. The winner was Weedpatch reliever Cooper Culaham, now 7-3. The loser was Jim Unknown. Earning his 28th save of the year was Oliver Wood.
Chris Byrd came through with a big-time hit for Weedpatch. The pinch hitter smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to give his team the lead, 5-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
Byrd called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
Poplar Bluff has now lost 5 in a row.
