Poplar Bluff wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Frank Rivera, falling to the Weedpatch Widowmakers, 4-0. Rivera threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Brian Anderson came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2.2 innings. His record now stands at 6-2. Chris Cowles, credited with the save, is now 6 for 12 in save opportunities.
Justin Bell hit a 2-run triple off Frank Rivera in the top of the seventh, which put the Widowmakers in front, 2-0. Bell had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 4.
Afterward, Poplar Bluff manager Adrian Mercado said: "We've hit a rough patch."
The Hillbillies, now 34-87, have lost 4 straight.
