Had Noel Weatherhead not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Weatherhead hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Comets.

"You have to win 1-0, 3-2, 2-1 games if you want to get to where you want to go," said Comets manager Morgan Van Dyke.
