The Kalamazoo Comets rode a solid performance from 23-year-old starting pitcher Mike Gunter to a win, beating the Pueblo Heroes, 3-1, at Heroes Ballpark. The winner was Gunter. He threw 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball. The loser was Phil Shull. Kevin Martinez was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 21 of 22 save opportunities.

Chad Nilsen cracked a home run off Phil Shull in the top of the fifth. His 2-run blast put the Comets on top, 3-1. In all, Nilsen had 2 singles in addition to the home run, while going 3 for 4.

"Mike did a nice job," said Comets manager .

The Comets now have a mark of 43-76.
