Gangsters Victorious at Indianapolis, 4-3
|
Fans saw a dandy of a game between the Chicago Gangsters and Indianapolis Eagles.
Chicago beat Indianapolis at Eagles Stadium, eking out a 4-3 win. The win was due in large part to shortstop Jason Bear. He was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. The winning pitcher was 23-year old right-handed pitcher Bobby Nowlin. He tossed 107 pitches over 6.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits. Keith Kramer notched his 8th save in 9 chances.
Gary Draeger, who led the NC in stolen bases with 45 in 2017, helped out the Chicago cause in the top of the fifth inning with a run-scoring single. For the game, the third baseman was 1 for 2 with a walk and was hit by a pitch.
After the game, Chicago manager Antonio Valdez applauded the team's effort. "They busted their humps out there," he said.
The Gangsters improved their record to 32-38 by beating Indianapolis.
