Whistlers Prevail, 5-4, Over Chicago
|
Though he had a terrific game, Jason Bear could not prevent his team, the Chicago Gangsters, from absorbing a loss. Boston won the game, 5-4. Bear was 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times. Matthew Rowlands picked up the win with 7 innings of work. He allowed 4 runs on 5 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 4. On the season, he is now 9-11. Blake Bryant earned his 37th save in 43 tries.
Had Oliver Damon not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Damon hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Whistlers.
"I felt good up there," said Damon. "I saw the ball well."
The first-place Whistlers, at 93-69, lead the American Conference Central Division by 18 games.
