The Spokane Selects had to overcome a fine effort from Walnut Park pitcher Danny Vollmer to win, 4-3, at Ballpark of Walnut Park. Vollmer went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. Moises Gonzalez, who is tied for 4th in the StC in quality starts with 13, was the winner. He's now 9-6. The loser was Ryan Larkins. The Selects now own a record of 60-42.
Timely hitting helped the Selects beat the Bobcats. Prime example: the two-out single Lee Muza registered in the top of the seventh. Facing Ryan Larkins, Muza gave his team the lead, 4-2, when he hit a 2-run single.
Muza called the win a test of his team's "mettle."
