Purple Wave Beat Visiting Fighting Quakers, 5-1
|
The New Rochelle Purple Wave went home winners at Ballpark of Lexington, thanks in large part to starter Miguel Benitez. Benitez stifled the Quebec Fighting Quakers, enabling New Rochelle to grab the 5-1 win. Benitez, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 5 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 1 walk. New Rochelle raised its record to 53-48 with the win.
New Rochelle third baseman Jesus Arrellano contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a fastball to left-center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 1st hit of the season and put the Purple Wave ahead, 1-0.
"It's the best feeling when you come through for your teammates," said Arrellano.
