Alcorn Excels, But Widowmakers Win
|
The Weedpatch Widowmakers weathered an outstanding game by Bangor designated hitter Josh Alcorn to topple the Lumberjacks, 9-8. Alcorn went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 4. Oliver Wood, who is tied for 2nd in the S-A in saves with 22, nailed down the save. Weedpatch has now won 3 in a row.
Rich Rodriguez had a big 3-run home run for the Widowmakers in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Weedpatch trailing 8-6 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he sized up a fastball from 24-year old right-handed pitcher Travis Jessie and punished it. The result was his 23rd home run of the season, which put the Widowmakers on top, 9-8.
Rodriguez told reporters after the game: "All's well that ends well."
