The first-place Barrie Admirals took on the Columbus Bowsers in front of a spirited crowd.

Nick Beck, who is tied for 8th in the S-A with a 0.96 WHIP, imposed his will on the Bowsers from the get-go. Relying mainly on his splitter, the right-hander spearheaded the 3-1 Barrie triumph. Barrie reliever Chris McAuley snagged the win, upping his record to 4-0. Cody Knipple shouldered the loss. Jerardo Perez notched his 29th save in 31 chances.

The Admirals got a big hit from right fielder Todd Stevens. In the bottom of the sixth, Stevens smacked a 2-run home run off Columbus pitcher Cody Knipple. It was his 27th home run of the season. Suddenly, the Admirals were ahead, 2-1.

"Gutsy performance by Nick," said Barrie manager Manny Uset.

After today's action, Barrie sits at 70-35; Columbus slips to 48-57.
