The Long Beach Keys earned a close win over the Kalamazoo Comets, thanks in part to Mike Riddick. The Long Beach right-hander played a key role in the 2-1 victory. Riddick yielded 1 run over 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 0, and struck out 1. His record improves to 3-8. Edgar Ramirez wrapped it up, recording his 2nd save.
The Comets had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Keys going into the top of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old first baseman Tom Knight came to the plate. Knight hit a solo home run on a 0-1 fastball from Kalamazoo hurler Mike Amos. It was Knight's 3rd home run of the year.
"It's nice to get the results when you're feeling good and throwing the ball well," said Riddick after the game.
Kalamazoo's current losing streak has reached 5 games.
