In a low-scoring contest between the White Deer Tropics and the Louisville Sweepers, 22-year old left-handed pitcher Alex Gomez proved to be the difference. The White Deer left-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-2 Tropics win. The winning pitcher was Gomez, now 5-6. He tossed 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 4. The save went to Scott Robertson, number 20 for him.
White Deer used the stroke of Mike Henschel to get the win. The shortstop hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Tropics ahead, 3-2. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Gomez.
At 58-45, the Tropics are currently third in the Southern A West Division.
