DeHaas 3-for-3 to Ignite Widowmakers Offense
|
The Weedpatch Widowmakers beat the Atlanta Aggies by a score of 11-6. Weedpatch catcher Brian DeHaas deserved the lion's share of the credit. DeHaas went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 6 for the Widowmakers. Cooper Culaham, who is tied for 4th in the S-A in holds with 7, picked up the win in relief. Jim Unknown took the loss for Atlanta. Weedpatch, now 53-51, holds down third place in the Southern A West Division.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Mike Winchel came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Atlanta pitcher Jim Unknown, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Weedpatch on top, 7-6.
In comments to the Weedpatch Times, Winchel admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
