Purple Wave Get Better of Z's, 6-1
|
At Ballpark of Lexington, the Ann Arbor Z's and New Rochelle Purple Wave were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
The New Rochelle Purple Wave downed the Ann Arbor Z's, 6-1, at Ballpark of Lexington. Stellar pitching by Jim Mendoza had a lot to do with it. The left-hander, who is tied for 9th in the StC in strikeouts with 100, handcuffed his opponent all game. Mendoza, the winner, moves to 5-6. He threw 7.1 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 3 walks.
The Purple Wave benefited from an error in the bottom of the fourth inning. New Rochelle was leading 2-1 when Severo Salcido hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put New Rochelle in front, 4-1.
"Win or lose, we always try to grind it out and stay even-keeled," Salcido said in reaction to the win.
The second-place Purple Wave have won 4 in a row.
