Crawdads Beat Fighting Quakers, 9-0
|
The first-place Hickory Crawdads took on the Quebec Fighting Quakers in front of a spirited crowd.
Hickory Crawdads starter Matt Schapp was in the groove. He led his team to a win over the Quebec Fighting Quakers, 9-0. Schapp, now 8-2, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing no runs.
Mark Root hit a 2-run home run off Andy Swift in the bottom of the second, which put the Crawdads ahead, 2-0. In addition to the homer, Root had 1 double, while going 2 for 4.
"I think we did a good job of looking for pitches we wanted to hit and put good swings on them," said Hickory skipper Ray Sanchez.
With the win, Hickory raised its record to 55-24.
