Pilots Ballpark was the site of a remarkable pitchers' duel.
In a tightly-contested game between the Denver Pilots and the Orono Oaks, pitcher Billy Merner was outstanding. The Denver left-hander propelled his team's 2-1 win. Merner, now 4-4, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing 1 run.
Adam Barker took Orono hurler Bill Frazer deep in the bottom of the sixth. His solo home run put the Pilots on top, 2-1. In all, Barker had 2 singles in addition to the home run, while going 3 for 4.
"Good pitching, clutch hitting," said Denver skipper Byung-sik Lee. "I can't complain."
Denver is in last place in the Stripes Conference West Division with a record of 29-46.
