The Whistlers grabbed a win, 5-3, at Whislters Park, overcoming a fine effort from Syracuse pitcher Joe Bringman. Bringman went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 run. Blake Bryant collected his 6th save. Boston goes to 34-31. The win puts them 11 games up in their division.
Derek Maher was 1 for 3 with a walk for Boston. With two out and the game tied in the bottom of the eighth inning, Maher, who finished 2nd in the NC in doubles with 54 in 2022, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Syracuse hurler Mike Kelley, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run to give the Whistlers a 4-3 lead.
Maher called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
