The Quebec Fighting Quakers could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Nick Dragon into a win. Instead, the Denver Pilots prevailed, 5-2. Dragon threw 8.1 innings of 5-hit ball. Tyler Hildebrand came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.2 innings. His record now stands at 1-3. Juan Santana earned the save for Denver.
Stuart Swan came through with a big-time hit for Denver. The pinch hitter smacked a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 5-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
Said losing manager Jeff Gray: "The at-bats, obviously, needed to be better."
Denver is now 26-41, Quebec 31-36.
