Orono Nets 2-1 Win Versus Z's
|
The Orono Oaks, despite a fine performance by Ann Arbor pitcher Dionísio Manteigueiro, grabbed a 2-1 win at University of Maine Stadium. Manteigueiro allowed no runs over 7 innings. Justin Cox picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Quincy Donaldson suffered the loss. Matt Williams finished to wrap up his 17th save.
Had Gene Flood not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Flood hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Oaks.
"We're stringing together some nice wins," said Orono manager Mike Barriga.
Orono, at 39-27, is 2½ games up in the Stripes Conference East Division.
