Bruins Lose By a Run at Quebec
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Quebec Fighting Quakers and the Westwood Bruins, Josh Oakman, who leads the StC with a 10.3 K/9 rate, proved to be the difference. The Quebec right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-2 Fighting Quakers win. Oakman, the winner, moves to 4-4. He threw 6.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 1 walk. C.J. Kiefer closed the door for Quebec, picking up his 11th save of the year.
The Bruins had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Fighting Quakers going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old left fielder Dave Davidson came to the plate. Davidson hit a solo home run on a first pitch cutter from Westwood hurler Jay Sikora. It was Davidson's 17th home run of the year.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Westwood skipper Nate Hendrickson.
The last-place Fighting Quakers have won 5 straight games.
