In a tight game between the Hickory Crawdads and the New Rochelle Purple Wave, pitcher Ed Jenkins was terrific on the mound. The Hickory right-hander helped his team to the 2-0 win. Jenkins yielded no runs over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 0, and struck out 5. His record improves to 2-4. The 4th-place Crawdads go to 33-31.

Jose Valdez, who is tied for 7th in the StC in total bases with 109, aided the Hickory cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the second baseman was 1-2.

"I just tried to focus on getting that first guy out every inning," said Jenkins.
