The Dillonvale Indians defeated the Orono Oaks, 5-3, in Stripes Conference action at Black Diamonds Ballpark. Dillonvale pitcher Roberto Melendez had a standout performance. The winner was Melendez. He threw 7.1 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Ben Calder. The loss makes Orono 34-27.
Steve Bloomquist dealt the Oaks a blow in the bottom of the sixth. Batting with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Dillonvale leading 1-0, Bloomquist hit a first pitch sinker for a 2-run single.
"I'm happy we won," said Melendez. "That's first and foremost. My goal is for the team to win the day I pitch, however it's done."
