Z's in Free Fall, Lose 16th Straight
|
The game between New Rochelle and Ann Arbor is in the books, despite a little rain.
The New Rochelle Purple Wave used the hitting of shortstop Kyle Nash to subdue the Ann Arbor Z's, 5-3. For the game, Nash went 2-4 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. New Rochelle reliever Sam Crider picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Tomas Herrera was saddled with the loss. Mike Walter, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 6th save.
Had Dennis Quesada not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Quesada hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Purple Wave.
"I warned the team before the game," losing manager Bryan Gallegos told reporters, "that I'm wearing the same pair of undies until we win."
The current losing streak for Ann Arbor has reached 16 games.
