Quebec Fighting Quakers pitcher Chris Stoddard was in top form, leading his team past the Hickory Crawdads, 3-1. Quebec reliever Jerardo Perez picked up the win to move to 1-1. Josh Hamilton suffered the loss. Brian Hammond sewed up the save, his 10th.
Juan Garza, who is tied for 4th in the StC with a .383 on-base percentage, took Hickory hurler Josh Hamilton deep in the bottom of the eighth. His 2-run home run put the Fighting Quakers on top, 3-1. In all, Garza had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"Can't say enough about our pitching," said Garza.
The first-place Fighting Quakers improved to 36-23.
