Comets Deal Tropics 5-4 Defeat

Both teams had their chances, but the Kalamazoo Comets eventually prevailed.
The Kalamazoo Comets defeated the White Deer Tropics, 5-4, at Ballpark of White Deer. Kalamazoo was led by 23-year old catcher Michael Williams, who was 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Stuart Blankenship earned the win to go to 2-0. He allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work.
Josh Michael dealt the Tropics a blow in the top of the fifth. Batting with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Kalamazoo leading 3-2, Michael, who is tied for 10th in the S-A with a .388 on-base percentage, hit a 1-1 fastball for a 2-run single.
"It never gets old," said Williams. "Winning, that is."
Kalamazoo, now 44-46, holds down 4th place in the Southern A East Division.
