The Dollywood Partons got a stellar effort from pitcher Chris Welch, helping Dollywood score a win over the visiting Kalamazoo Comets, 8-1. Welch, the winner, moves to 2-0. He threw 5.1 innings of 0-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 2 walks. The Partons, at 58-17, have a comfortable 14½-game lead in their division.

Roberto Ramirez had a big 3-run home run for the Partons in the bottom of the second inning. With Dollywood leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from 25-year old right-handed pitcher Justin Bunt and swatted a home run to right. It was his 3rd home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Partons ahead, 4-0.

"What a lackluster performance," lamented losing manager Morgan Van Dyke.
