Thanks in large part to third baseman Bill McHale, the Kalamazoo Comets beat the Long Beach Keys, 3-2. McHale went 3-4 with 3 singles. The last-place Keys dropped to 10-63.

With scoring opportunities rare, the Comets had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the second, when center fielder Ted Hendrix hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Katsumasa Nakatsu and made the score 3-0, Comets. Hendrix was 2 for 4 with a double.

"I really like what we did out there today," Hendrix said after the game.
