Long Beach Beats Columbus, 10-4
|
The Columbus Bowsers got a superb performance from pitcher Alex Lozada, but the Long Beach Keys still won the game, 10-4. Lozada threw 5.1 innings of 3-hit ball. David Burr earned the win in relief. The left-hander allowed 3 runs on 4 hits in 1.1 innings. He upped his record to 1-3. Eric Whiting earned the save for Long Beach, his 1st of the year.
Long Beach used a clutch at-bat from Greg Mayfield to capture the win. The right fielder hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Keys ahead, 6-4. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Mayfield told the Long Beach Times. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
Long Beach occupies 5th place in the Southern A West Division at 24-40.
