The Charleston Shiners had to overcome a good performance from Chicago pitcher Matthew Thomas to claim a 3-2 win at Ballpark of Charleston. Thomas went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. David Johnson earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 3.1 innings. His record is now 1-0. Charleston is now 34-25.

Charleston took a 3-2 lead on Tim Hutchison's 13th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Hutchison hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Chicago pitcher Brian Hammond visibly frustrated.

"Winning the game is always the first objective," Hutchison said.
