The Syracuse Scorpions banked on Matt Simpson and he turned in a masterful performance. The right-hander kept the Chicago hitters in check. The final score was 3-1, Scorpions. John Landgren earned his 27th save in 34 tries. With the win over Chicago, the Scorpions improved to 68-87.
Nate Volk, who is tied for 8th in the AC with a .288 batting average, had a direct impact on the outcome. Volk contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put Syracuse up, 2-1.
"We just try to have good at-bats, whether we're winning, losing, or tied," said Volk.
