Scorpions Lose Despite Valiant Effort by Widmer
Despite a great performance by Syracuse designated hitter Donovan Widmer, the Tampa Bay Captains defeated the Scorpions by the score of 8-7 at Scorpion Stadium. Widmer was 4-5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 4. Getting the save was Jason Washington, his 16th. The triumph makes Tampa Bay 43-98.

Tampa Bay used a timely hit from Tim Baggett to get the win. The designated hitter stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Captains ahead, 8-5. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a difference-maker.

"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Baggett, "but we got it done."
