The Oakland Invaders knocked off the Syracuse Scorpions, 5-3, at Howard Terminal. Jim Henkemeyer was a big reason Oakland won. The shortstop went 2-5 with a home run. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. The win was credited to Tom Paolucci in relief. His record improves to 6-4. Mike Kelley took the loss. Oakland is now 32-24. Syracuse is 17-39.

Henkemeyer had a timely hit for Oakland in the bottom of the eighth. With Oakland trailing 3-2, he turned a 1-0 fastball into a 3-run home run. It was his 12th home run of the season, making it 5-3, Oakland.

"Jim is still learning," said Invaders manager Adam Ponder. "The sky's the limit for him."
