Crawdads Edge Bruins, 5-4

The Hickory Crawdads topped the Westwood Bruins, 5-4, in Stripes Conference action at Crawdad Park. The standout performance belonged to Hickory pitcher and Maryland City, Maryland, native Chad Bendon. Bendon, the winner, moves to 2-4. He threw 5.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 4 walks. Travis Erb earned the save for Hickory.
Jeremy Alfano, who is tied for 5th in the StC with a .591 slugging percentage, came through for Hickory with a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh. The third baseman went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 2 runs and collected 2 RBI.
"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Alfano.
The Crawdads, at 29-24, sit in second place in the Stripes Conference West Division.
