Bruins Win at Home, 3-1

The Westwood Bruins downed the Spokane Selects, 3-1, at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Stellar pitching by Ricardo Alvarado had a lot to do with it. The right-hander handcuffed his opponent all game. Alvarado yielded 1 run over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. His record improves to 2-1. The win for the Bruins lifted their record to 31-19.
Jonathan Ellis had a big 2-run home run for the Bruins in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Westwood leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a sinker from Rob Harvey, who leads the StC in complete games with 1, and punished it. The result was his 11th home run of the season, which put the Bruins on top, 3-0.
"You need to show up when your number's called," said Ellis.
