Oaks Deal Crawdads 6-1 Defeat
|
The Hickory Crawdads could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Chris Phillips into a win. Instead, the Orono Oaks prevailed, 6-1. Phillips threw 5.1 innings of 1-hit ball. Nick Calvache, the winning pitcher, improved to 3-1. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 4 hits and 1 run, while striking out 5 and walking 3. Eric Moriarty closed the door for Orono, picking up his 1st save of the year.
Matt Tindall had a big 3-run home run for the Oaks in the top of the sixth inning. With Orono leading 3-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a cutter from 26-year old right-handed pitcher Josh Kuhn and swatted a home run to right. It was his 9th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Oaks ahead, 6-0.
Said losing manager Ray Sanchez: "It's very easy to sit in an ivory tower and critique the pitching, but the bottom line is we need to score runs."
The win elevated the Oaks to 30-21.
