Gangsters Take 10-2 Pounding
|
The San Diego Fleet converted a terrific effort from starter Rodrigo Lemus into a win over the Chicago Gangsters at San Diego Stadium. The Fleet won the game by a final score of 10-2. Lemus yielded 2 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 12. His record improves to 13-2. The Fleet win now puts them at 68-45.
The Gangsters had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Fleet going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 31-year old first baseman Jon Pitts came to the plate. Pitts hit a grand slam home run on a full count cutter from Chicago hurler Cesar Chairez. It was Pitts's 18th home run of the year.
"We hit the ball hard," said San Diego manager Brian Burnett. "Line drive after line drive."
