Weedpatch pitcher Jose Cruceta had a large part in his team beating the Poplar Bluff Hillbillies, 7-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. In 6 innings, Cruceta surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Chris Cowles earned save number 1 this season.
In the bottom of the third, Weedpatch center fielder Ted Choate had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and two out, Choate stroked a run-scoring single to right. It made the score 4-2, Weedpatch. For the game, he went 1 for 3 with a walk.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Choate, "one at-bat at a time."
