The White Deer Tropics got a superb performance from pitcher Sal Reyes, but the Weedpatch Widowmakers still won the game, 8-2. Reyes threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. The win brings the Widowmakers to 6-11, an inauspicious start for a team that made the playoffs last season.

Brian DeHaas's at-bat in the top of the seventh inning was a big one for Weedpatch. Coming to bat with two out, a runner on 2nd and Weedpatch trailing 2-1, the catcher hit a run-scoring single.
