Fans of the Poplar Bluff Hillbillies who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Poplar Bluff win over the visiting Kalamazoo Comets, 5-3. Chris Lowe started for the home team against Alex Gonzales. Chris Lowe earned accolades for his performance. Jim Unknown snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits over 3 innings. He's now 1-0 on the season.

Poplar Bluff went up, 5-3, on Jerry Alvarado's 1st home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Alvarado hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Kalamazoo pitcher Alex Gonzales shaking his head.

"Chris just went about his business, throwing strikes," said Poplar Bluff manager Adrian Mercado.
