Comets Hope Opening Day Win Bodes Well for Season
|
Crowds lined up early in front of Wizards Stadium, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2026 ABA Class A season. On the mound was Danny Cortez for the visiting Barrie Admirals and Pedro Solano for the hometown Kalamazoo Comets. In a spirited contest, the Comets pulled out the win, defeating the Admirals by the score of 2-1. Especially impressive was Danny Cortez. Pedro Solano was the winner. Over 7.1 innings, he yielded 1 run on 9 hits, with no walks and 3 strikeouts. The save went to Carter Coccaro, number 1 for him.
The Comets got a big at-bat from second baseman Ted Hendrix. For the game, Hendrix went 1-4 with a triple. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run triple. His 1st triple of the season gave Kalamazoo a 2-1 lead.
"Tough loss," said Barrie manager Manny Uset. "But we'll rebound from it."
