Capitals Knock Off Dust Devils at Capitals Ballpark
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Tampa Capitals and the Kansas City Dust Devils, pitcher Matt Rickert was the difference between victory and defeat. The Tampa right-hander earned accolades in the 2-1 Capitals win. Alex Gonzalez came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. His record now stands at 4-3. The save went to Hector Cantu, number 1 for him.
The Capitals got a big hit from center fielder Alberto Torres. In the bottom of the sixth, Torres smacked a 2-run home run off Kansas City pitcher Dan Yeager. It was his 5th home run of the season. Suddenly, the Capitals were ahead, 2-1.
Torres called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
The 5th-place Capitals improved to 66-73.
