The Glace Bay Miners spoiled a good performance by San Antonio pinch hitter Willie Trevino, bumping off San Antonio, 6-4, at Miners Memorial Bowl. Trevino was 1 for 1 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Alvaro Salas notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 3 innings. His record now sits at 13-2. Steve Oswald closed it out for his 35th save.
The Stallions had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Miners going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old third baseman Joe Scharf came to the plate. Scharf hit a bases-clearing triple on a first pitch cutter from San Antonio hurler Carlos Diaz. It was Scharf's 2nd triple of the year.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Scharf.
Glace Bay raised its record to 72-67 with the win.
