Glace Bay and Tampa duked it out and the Miners came out victorious.
The Glace Bay Miners topped the Tampa Capitals, 4-1, in Northern A action at Miners Memorial Bowl. The standout performance belonged to Glace Bay pitcher and Preston Heights, Illinois, native Brian Wilkey. Nate Berkley earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. He upped his record to 3-5. Oscar Hernandez earned his 11th save in 16 chances.
Jeremy Gage aided the Glace Bay cause with a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the shortstop drew 2 walk.
"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Wilkey said.
The win puts Glace Bay at 69-68 this season.
