Miners Win at Grand Rapids, 5-3
|
Greg Forness, who is tied for 4th in the N-A with a 2.68 ERA, was locked in. The left-hander led the Glace Bay Miners to a 5-3 win against the Grand Rapids Jet Hawks at Jet Hawks Ballpark. Forness got the win, improving to 10-4. He gave up 6 hits and walked 2 over 6 innings. He allowed 3 runs. The first-place Miners, at 93-41, now lead their division by 8½ games.
Glace Bay used a well-timed hit by Keith DiPiazza to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Miners ahead, 5-2. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.
"Very pleased with the effort on our side," said Forness.
