Tampa Earns 2-1 Win
|
The Newark Flyers got a superb performance from pitcher Jose Perez. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Tampa. The Capitals won the game, 2-1. Perez threw 7.0 innings of 1-hit ball. Estevan Rios closed the game out for Tampa, earning his 3rd save. Tampa is now 62-66, Newark 84-44.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Clark Lewis came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Newark pitcher Jason Gaiser, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Tampa on top, 2-1.
Lewis called the win "a team effort."
