Glace Bay pitcher Omar Valentin did his part in helping his team beat the Grand Rapids Jet Hawks, 5-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Bubba Byrne recorded the save, making him 11 for 13. With the win, the Miners have a record of 83-43.

Craig Carson dealt the Jet Hawks a blow in the bottom of the sixth. Batting with the bases loaded and Glace Bay leading 3-0, Carson, who is tied for 2nd in the N-A in doubles with 31, hit a 0-2 fastball for a 2-run single.

"Omar's not intimidated by who's stepping into the batter's box," said Glace Bay manager Carlos Acevedo.
